Victim: Cecil Whitehead

Offense: Burglary

Location: 10 Whiting Street, LaGrange, GA 30240

Date: December 1, 2002

Date of Arrest: December 3, 2002

Time: 0800 hours

Suspect: Gerald Nelson

Description of Incident: On December 1, 2002, the resident of 10 Whiting Street reported that someone had entered his residence while he was out of town and taken a television, a CD radio and approximately $200.00 in frozen meat from a freezer. At the time that the report was taken the victim named Gerald Nelson as a possible suspect in this incident. On the morning of Tuesday, December 3, 2002 the victim called 911 and reported that Nelson was asleep on the back porch of the residence. Officers responded and located Gerald Nelson asleep on the back porch of the residence. He was arrested at the scene on an outstanding Felony Parole Warrant. He was later questioned about his involvement in this burglary. He was later charged with one count of Burglary. He is currently being held at the Troup County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

Victim: Marlon Thompson

Offense: Burglary

Location: 109 Clark Street, LaGrange, GA 30240

Date: November 11, 2002

Date of Arrest: December 2, 2002

Time: 1700 hours

Suspect: Juvenile

Description of Incident: On November 11, 2002, Marlon Thompson reported that someone had entered his residence and taken two cell phones. On November 28, 2002 Thompson reported that he had recovered one of the cell phones from a juvenile. On Monday December 2, 2002 the juvenile was taken into custody following an interview where he admitted that he had taken the phones. He was later released to his mother pending a court hearing.

Suspects: Stacy Ledford

Victim: Aaron’s Rental

Offense: Forgery First Degree

Location: 509 Freeman Street

Date: February 22, 2002

Time: unknown

 Description of Incident: In early March of this year the LaGrange Police Department began an investigation into numerous forgeries of money orders that had been taken from local rental stores throughout the city of LaGrange. As a result of this investigation several subjects were arrested and charged with several different counts of forgery as well as one subject was charged with Burglary. At the time that the arrest were made one of the subjects that was involved was able to leave town in an attempt to avoid being arrested. Stacy Ledford was able to leave town before she could be arrested. Later on in March the LaGrange Police Department received information that Ledford had returned to the New England area and was living with family there. With cooperation with the New Hampshire State Police and local New Hampshire authorities Ledford was arrested in early November. She was then extradited back to LaGrange to face these charges. She was arrested and held in the Troup County Jail at the time of this press release.

OFFENSE: Sale of Cocaine, Using a telephone to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, Obstruction of Police

SUSPECT: Tamela Gamble

ADDRESS: 109 Lafayette Court, LaGrange, Georgia

VICTIM: State of Georgia

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: December 2, 2002 at 1430 hours

LOCATION: 109 Lafayette Court, LaGrange, Georgia

INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On December 2, 2002, at 1430 hours, LaGrange Police conducted an undercover investigation where Eric Gamble completed a sale of cocaine. He was taken into custody after a struggle with police. His wife Tamela Gamble was also arrested for obstruction of police officers because she hindered officers during their arrest of her husband. Approximately three hundred dollars worth of cocaine was recovered during the investigation. Eric and Tamela Gamble were transported to the Troup County Jail.

OFFENSE: Possession of Marijuana

SUSPECT: Rico Williams

AGE: 19

SEX: male

ADDRESS: 1004 Stonewall Street, LaGrange, Georgia

VICTIM: State of Georgia

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: December 2, 2002 at 1818 hours

LOCATION: 900 Block of Stonewall Street

INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: On December 2, 2002, at 1818 hours, LaGrange Police made contact with Evans and Williams after receiving information that they were selling and were in possession of "crack" cocaine. A search of Evan’s person was conducted and "crack" cocaine with a street value of approximately four hundred fifty dollars and twenty five hundred dollars in cash was located in his pockets. Evans was charged as stated above and transported the Troup County Jail where he will be held until a bond hearing can be conducted. Williams was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was also charged as stated above and transported to the Troup County Jail.

On 11/25/02, Harold Thomas of LaGrange, Ga. was arrested on warrants for vehicular homicide and failing to yield the right of way stemming from a fatal traffic crash that occurred on 06/28/02 at around 0903 which killed Thomas Jackson, also of LaGrange.

The delay in arrest was primarily due to waiting for blood test results. Thomas turned himself in to police once he learned of the warrants. Both offenses are misdemeanors.
